10 Gifts For A Gardener

Maybe you want to treat yourself, maybe you don’t know what to ask for for your birthday or Christmas, or maybe you are looking for the perfect gift for someone else who loves their garden. Well, to help you out, I thought I’d share some of the best gifts I’ve received and given (and some I still want). They won’t break the bank but I can assure you a keen gardener would actually really like these ten ideas…

Trugs.jpg

A Handmade Garden Trug – I have both given and received a garden trug from Good With Wood Stroud. I originally bought one as a gift for my next door neighbours for Christmas, they have helped so much with all my gardening questions and we share seeds, plants and vegetables, so it seemed the most fitting gift. I made it into a hamper with some homemade chutney in it, and crackers and cheese. I was raving about how good the quality is and what a good size it was, and the next thing I know there was one for me under the Christmas tree too! Martin hand makes an array of house and garden items all from reclaimed timber, and I was super impressed with the sturdiness and finish of the trug. Perfect for cut flowers, vegetables, and fruit or just to carry round your trawls, gloves and seeds, they are currently available for £11.55 on his Etsy shop.

Dibber.jpg

A Personalised Dibber – I added one of these to my Christmas list and was so happy to unwrap it, and I’ve been even happier using it this spring to plant a few last minute bulbs. In case you don’t know, a dibber is a tool designed to be pressed into the ground, or dragged across it to create ideal holes or trenches for seeds, bulbs or plants. Dibbers have a measure guide on the side so gardeners can be precise with how deep they are planting things. I think it’s a bargain buy at £9 including the personalisation from Personalised Gifts Shop.

Seed Tin.jpg

A Seed Box – For anyone who grows flowers or food from seed, a decent storage container makes it easier to safely store packets from one season to another. In my opinion a tin box is going to be more hardwearing and survive longer than a wooden one, especially if it will be stored in the shed. I love these (available in white, black or grey) from Gardening Naturally on Etsy, for £19.99.

Planter Ruler.jpg

A Planting Ruler – I’m adding this to my birthday wish list this year for sure! I’ve started to grow more and more from seed, and each year I realise how important spacing really is. With more space everything I plant will have more room to grow to its full potential and this ruler is going to make it so easy to be more accurate. This one is available on Etsy for £10 from Dalatho.

stem print.jpg

Personalised Family Flower Stem Print – I just bought one of these prints for my mum’s upcoming birthday. You can personalise it with family member names, and pick which flowers you want illustrated too. You can add a message along the bottom so it’s a completely bespoke present.  I will need to find a frame for it, but I think it’s a perfect gift for £19 from Paper Pocket on Not On The High Street.

kneeler.jpg

A Kneeler Pillow – Gardening of any kind involves a level of being on your knees, so a decent kneeler pillow can be a real gift. I bought a Jumbo one by Briers, but there are so many alternatives online that you can find to fit the personality and taste of the lucky recipient.

Shed keyring.jpg

A Shed Keyring – No one likes losing keys, and there is nothing more infuriating that having to walk round and round the garden looking for the smallest of keys. A chunky keyring is perfect to ensure the shed key never gets misplaced again! I found these ones (that can be completely personalised too) made by Sweet Pea Designs for £8.99.

Garden Gloves.jpg

Garden Gloves – I’m not talking about decorative ones that come in giftsets. I mean, thornproof, heavy duty gardening gloves. Something like the Hexarmor Thornarmor 3092 Gardening And Landscaping Gloves (£36.27), or Watson Flextime Leather Workshop Gloves (£14.99). Not worrying about thorns and other sharp garden things makes weeding and pulling out unwanted nettles, and spiky shrubs a breeze.

birth flower.jpg

Birth Flower – Personal without being personalised, I love the idea of gifting someone their birth flower (in seed form of course)! In each kit you get 1 packet of seeds, 1 coconut husk starter plant pot, 1 coconut husk compost disc, and 1 plant marker. They are £11.95 from The Letteroom or via Not On The High Street.

bee hotel.jpg

Bee Hotel Craft Kit – I try my best to plant bee friendly flowers, and my husband regularly revives bumble bees with sugar water in the summer, so having a little bee hotel is right up our street. I love this craft kit because it’s an activity in itself, and my husband loved building this, I’m excited to hang it outside this year and see what the bees think of it! In the same range you can also find a bird feeder and insect house if you’d rather! They are all from John Lewis, for £12.00.
